Swedish massage consists of a specific set of massage movements: effleurage, or sliding movements; petrissage, or kneading movements; friction, or rubbing; vibration and percussion. It traditionally also includes passive and active joint movements, stretching and bending joints.

Swedish massage increases the circulation of blood and lymph, which has the result of cleaning and nourishing soft tissues--the skin and muscle. It lengthens and relaxes the superficial muscles and stimulates peristalsis in the intestines.

Choose Swedish massage for relaxation to increase circulation of blood and lymph, for relief of pain, improved mood, improved sleep and sharper thinking.

Deep tissue massage focuses on stretching fascia, a three-dimensional web of connective tissue that surrounds, supports and penetrates all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Deep tissue massage works layer by layer through connective tissue and muscles down to the deepest accessible layers to change posture and create freedom of movement by releasing fascial adhesions and chronic muscle contracture. Adhesions and scar tissue form in muscles because of injury, chronic poor posture, chronic or acute inflammation and repetitive motions.

Deep tissue work creates micro-tears in the fascia, which fill with elastin and collagen in about three days, creating muscles that are more flexible, supple and have greater range of motion. For the most success, the client must be willing to stretch regularly between sessions to retrain muscles and prevent recurrence of muscle contracture.

Choose deep tissue massage for chronic pain that is muscular in origin, to improve posture and range of motion. To improve athletic performance, use deep tissue massage off-season as it produces changes in movement to which you need to become accustomed before competing.

Joint mobilization is an example of a hands-on treatment and is a form of passive movement technique for musculoskeletal conditions.  This technique, which is considered manual therapy, usually involves applying force that would mimic the glide that happens in between the bones.

Joint mobilization is usually done at a slow speed, with or without oscillations or a stretch.  This technique is usually graded and is varied based on two factors: pain tolerance of the patient and the acuity of the patient’s condition.

The main aim of joint mobilization is to restore the normal joint play that might have been compromised by damage or injury.  Normal motion of the affected joint will restored more quickly if it is addressed early in the treatment program. Also, mobilization is in cases when range of motion is lacking.

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

The benefits of massage can improve overall prenatal health for many pregnant women. Along with the guidance and advice of a prenatal care provider, massage therapy can be incorporated into routine prenatal care as an emotional and physical health supplement shown to improve pregnancy outcome and maternal health. Consult with your midwife or obstetrician before beginning any new therapeutic practice.

“With friendly and informative sessions, Jon provides whole body care for your aches, pains and muscles. I recommend Jon’s masseuse services to help anyone get back on track. ”

“I have been seeing Jon since 2016. I feel a world of difference after making regular appointments
with him!

Jon was able to identify several areas of tightness in my muscles and joints that have been causing pain and tenderness in both my day-to-day life and when I work out. He was able to confirm areas of muscle imbalance that I knew I needed to work on, and taught me about areas I have been neglecting.

In addition to releasing the tight areas through massage, Jon gave me homework to do, including specific stretches and active release exercises. He was able to demonstrate each exercise for those of us who need a visual reference. He is a good listener,  I've been to other therapists with my aches & pains, they don't always focus on areas that needs the most treatment. I have realized over time that I need these massages, because every time I leave I feel like I'm walking on air and can even breathe easier.

Jon's rate is comparable to other massages I have received in the area. He was very professional,  knowledgeable, friendly and great at his job. He is very understanding about rescheduled or missed appointments as well as very accommodating with appointment times. The offices are in a great location, are clean, and relaxing. Jon's massages are worth the price and have given me fantastic results. ”

"I have had Jon Cody as my RMT for three years. I have had many RMT’s over the years, and can be quite picky with them. My own mom is an RMT in Ontario, and so, I have adopted her high standards for professionalism and care. I booked with him once, and haven’t booked with anyone else since.

His intuitive and trained touch can pinpoint exactly where something is wrong, and with his knowledge of human anatomy, he is able to effectively treat the problem away. He also listens: when you communicate what you are looking for during a treatment session, he delivers what you asked for. Also, his client care is flexible - If you are looking for a quiet session for either relaxation or treatment, he gives you just that. On the other hand, if you’re in a talkative mood, he is very personable and always has great stories to share and intently listens to yours.

I always leave feeling better than when I came in and have every intention of continuing my massage therapy with Jon."
